Detailed Solution

(a) N-methyl ethanamine is a secondary amine. When it reacts with benzene sulphonyl chloride, it forms N- Ethyl -N methyl sulphonamide while and N,N-dimethyl ethanamine is a tertiary amine it does not react with benzene sulphonyl chloride.

(b) Thus O-H bond is more polar than N-H bond. Therefore –O-H can form stronger hydrogen bond with water molecule than –N-H. That is why butan-1-ol is more soluble in water than butan-1-amine.

or

(a) In the case of a chemical synthetic method, benzyl chloride (synthetic benzyl chloride) is prepared by a Grignard reaction and then benzyl alcohol is obtained from the synthetic benzyl chloride through reduction, hydrolysis, and dehydrogenation.

(b) Phenol is more acidic than alcohols due to stabilization of phenoxide ion through resonance.
