A glass rod gets electrically charged on rubbing with silk cloth. What is the source of this charge?

When we rub two objects together, they become electrically charged. Atoms that are composed of protons and electrons are present in the rod. When we rub the glass rod with the silk cloth, electrons are transferred to the silk cloth from the rod. In this process, the glass rod gets a positive charge and the silk cloth gets a negative charge.
