Detailed Solution

Given an electric oven with two coils,

Resistance of coil A = Resistance of coil B = 24 Ω

i.e., RA=RB=24

Voltage, V = 220 V

a) Current, I1 used when coils are used separately

According to Ohm’s law,

                                                 I1=VR1

where, R1=RA=RB=24

Substituting the values,

                                                 I1=22024=9.166 A

Therefore, 9.166 A current will flow through each coil when used separately.

b) Current, I2 used when coils are connected in series

According to Ohm’s law,

                                                 I2=VR2

where, R2=RA+RB=24 +24 =48

Substituting the values,

                                                 I2=22048=4.583 A

Therefore, 4.583 A current will flow through the circuit when the coils are connected in series.

c) Current, I3 used when coils are connected in parallel

According to Ohm’s law,

                                                 I3=VR3

where, R3=11RA+1RB=1124+124=12

Substituting the values,

                                               I3=22012=18.33 A

Therefore, 18.33 A current will flow through the circuit when coils are connected in parallel.
