Detailed Solution

A huge mill strike in 1918 took place at Ahemdabad. Gandhi is credited with starting the first hunger strike in 1918 during the Ahmedabad Mill Strike. Mahatma Gandhi became involved in a conflict between Ahmedabad mill owners and employees in 1918. He started a life-defying fast to coerce a compromise. Additionally, he supported the Gujarati peasants of Khaira in their struggle against the collection of land revenue following the failure of their crops. At this time, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel quit his lucrative legal profession to support Gandhi. Gandhi was introduced to the masses via these interactions, and he actively supported their interests for the remainder of his life. He was the first nationalist leader in India to relate his existence and way of life to that of the people.
