a) In laboratory conditions, the sperm from the donor and ova from the female are fused together to form the zygote. Zygote contains up to 8 blastomeres. This zygote is transferred to the fallopian tube.

b) No, GIFT cannot be considered as IVF technique as fertilisation takes place within the female body. It is in vivo technique.

During the follicular phase, levels of LH and FSH raise gradually.
FSH stimulates the growth of follicles of ovaries before ovulation. LH surge results in the rupture of the Graafian follicle to release the ovum. This process is called ovulation.
