Detailed Solution

A ladder-like formation where all caste groups are placed from the highest to the lowest is called a caste hierarchy. The four main castes in India were defined during the Vedic period. These include the Brahmans, the Kshatriya, the Vaishyas and the Shudras. Earlier, based on their work, these castes were assigned to people, but later, it was based on birth. Thus caste inequality took its worst and inhumane form. People started treating each other based on their caste, respecting the higher caste people and mistreating the lower caste people.
Thus, the caste hierarchy is a ladder-like formation in which the castes are arranged from the highest to the lowest.
