A last surviving member of a particular species is dead. What is the phenomenon called?

Extinction is the dying out or extermination of a species (species does not exist in wild or refuges as well). Extinction occurs when species are diminished because of environmental forces (habitat fragmentation, overexploitation of species for human use) or because of evolutionary changes in their members (genetic inbreeding, poor reproduction, decline in population numbers).
