Detailed Solution

Given that, diameter of pencil is 1.4cm, diameter of graphite is 0.2cm, length of pencil is 28cm.
Volume of cylinder =πr2h
The radius of the pencil is 1.42=0.7cm
The radius of the graphite is 0.22=0.1cm
The height of the pencil =28cm
The volume of graphite =πrg2h where, rg is the radius of graphite.
The volume of pencil =πrp2h where, rp is the radius of pencil.
The volume of the wood in the pencil =πrp2-rg2h
 2270.72-0.1228 227×0.48×28 42.28cm3 The volume of graphite=πrgh2
227×0.12×14 0.44cm2 Thus, the volume of the wood in the pencil is 42.28cm2 and the volume of the graphite is 0.44cm2.
Therefore, option (3) is correct.
