Detailed Solution

A lens produces an erect image, of size 12 mm, when an object of size 6 mm is placed 12 cm from its optical centre.

The power of the lens will be 5 D.
The power of a lens is the inverse of focal length.

Let us calculate the focal length of the lens.
given u = 12 cm
          v= ?
magnification=vu=image size object size

v12=126
v= 24 cm
Using the lens formula, we can find out the focal length of the lens.
      1f=1v-1u

(Where f = focal length, v = image distance, u = object distance)
1f=124+112

1f=-124 f=-24 cm

Now, the power of the lens will be,
P=1f

P=1fm

P=10.24

 P= 4.16  D
