A magnet always has north and south poles.
Since Earth is a magnet and is having a magnetic field, one of its poles is very close to the geographical north. So, to facilitate navigation it’s better to call as 'North'. Since a magnet's poles are opposite to each other, if one pole is called a ‘North’, therefore, the other pole must be named a 'South' pole.
