Melting points of alkaline earth metals(IIA) are greater than that of alkali metals (IA)
Reason
1) Size of alkaline earth metals are smaller when compared to alkali metals and hence inter atomic attractions [metallic Bond] in alkaline earth metals are strong than alkali metals

2) Number of valency electrons involved in metallic bond is "2" in case of IIA group elements, where as number of valency electron involved in metallic bond is (1) in the case of IA group elements

Both statement - I  and statement - II are False.
