A metallic cube of side 6 cm is melted and formed into a cuboid of length 12 cm and height 2 cm. What is the breadth of the cuboid ? 

Given :  side of a cube(a) = 6 cm

          length of cuboid(l) = 12 cm

         height of cuboid(h) = 2 cm

To find : Breadth of the cuboid

Solution:

volume of cube $=a^3=6\times 6\times 6=216 c{m}^3$

Let the breadth of the cuboid is 'b'

volume of cuboid $=l\times b\times h=12\times b\times 2=24\times b c{m}^3$

Also, volume of cuboid = volume of cube

$\Rightarrow 24 \times b=216$

$\Rightarrow b=\frac{216}{24}$

$\Rightarrow b=9$

Therefore, the required breadth of the cuboid is 9 cm

Hence, the correct option is option A
