Here the distance between the object and image is
v-u = 30 cm  — (1)
Magnification, m= 2
 ⇒m= -v u 
⇒ 2= -vu
⇒v = -2u
On putting this value in equation (1), we get
⇒-2u-u = 30
⇒                u=-10 cm
