Detailed Solution

A mixture containing iron filings and sulphur powder can be separated using magnetic separation and carbon disulphide.
The magnet attracts iron filings, whereas sulphur powder will not be attracted. Another method which can be used to separate this mixture is using carbon disulphide as a solvent. Sulphur dissolves in carbon disulphide, whereas iron filings are not soluble in it and will be left behind. Evaporation is the conversion of the liquid phase into its gaseous phase on heating. Condensation is the conversion of the gaseous phase into its liquid phase on cooling. Evaporation and condensation cannot be used to separate a mixture of iron filings and sulphur powder.
