A mixture of naphthalene and sodium chloride can be separated by sublimation.
Some solid substances which on heating are directly converted into gaseous state without passing through the liquid phase and similarly, on cooling the vapours are directly converted into a solid. Such substances are called sublimate and the process is called sublimation. Naphthalene is a sublimable substance. While sodium chloride is not sublimable i.e. naphthalene turns into vapours without changing into liquid state and its vapours change into solid without changing into liquid.
