Q.

A moist sample weighing one gram, comprising a mixture of potassium chloride and potassium chlorate, was dissolved in water, and adjusted to a volume of 250ml. A 25ml portion of this solution was subjected to treatment with sulphur dioxide to convert chlorate to chloride, and any excess sulphur dioxide was eliminated by boiling. The entire chloride content was then precipitated as silver chloride, yielding a precipitate weighing 0.1435g. In a separate experiment, 25ml of the initial solution was heated with 30ml of a 0.2N solution of ferrous sulphate. The unreacted ferrous sulphate required 37.5 ml of a 0.08 N solution of an oxidizing agent for complete oxidation.
