A monocot root differs from dicot root in having extensive pith, polyarch condition with more than six xylem strands (only up to six in dicot root), inability of pericycle to form cork cambium and vascular cambium, inability of conjunctive tissue to form vascular cambium. Monocot root usually does not show secondary growth whereas the dicot root does.
