Detailed Solution

i) If for the normal relaxed eye of an average person, the power at the far point be Pf. The required power Pf=1f=10.1+10.2=60D

By the corrective lens the object distance at the far point is .

The power required is, Pf'=1f'=1+10.02=50D

Now for eye + lens system, we have the sum of the eye and that of the glasses Pg

P'f=Pf+Pg50D=60D+Pg

Which gives, Pg=10D

ii) For the normal eye his power of accommodation is 4D. Let the power of the normal eye for near vision be Pn.Then, 4=PnPf   or  Pn=64D

Let his near point be xn, then 1xn+10.02=64   or  1xn+50=64

1xn=14   xn=114m=0.07  m
