Farmers used biocontrol over chemicals as it is less toxic to the environment. Biopesticides are natural products having pesticidal properties and are specific to a particular pest.
Synthetic chemical pesticides have broad spectrum action and affect several non-target organisms but also pollute the air, water, and soil.
