A paid servant called the gomastha was appointed to supervise weavers. The company hired salaried workers named the gomasthas to supervise weavers, collect supplies, and inspect the textile quality. It made it impossible for company weavers to deal with other buyers. Weavers got loans to purchase raw materials for their manufacturing when an order was placed. Those who took out loans had to provide the gomastha with the cloth they made. They were unable to take it to another trader.
