Collenchyma provides mechanical support to the growing parts of the plant such as young stem and petiole of a leaf of dicots. Parenchyma forms the major component within organs. The parenchyma performs various functions like photosynthesis, storage, secretion etc. but not in translocation of mineral water. Vessels and tracheids of xylem are involved in translocation of mineral water.
