From figure, Linear momentum towards +ve y-axis  (pj^).  
 From right hand thumb rule, Angular momentum  (L) is towards +ve z-axis  (Lk^)
 Now, 
 α=p×L=(pj^)×(Lk^)=pL(j^×k^)=pLi^
 From properties of cross product of 2 vectors, the direction of α  is along +ve x-axis.
