Detailed Solution

Let u = Velocity of particle

v = Velocity of wedge

Location of the particle after time t

x=uxt=103×12t=53t y=uyt-12gt2=103×32t-12×10t2=15t-5t2

Equation of the top surface of the wedge at time t

y=-tan30°(x-vt)=-x-103t3 or,  y+x3=10t

When the particle strikes the wedge, the locations of the particle satisfies the previous equation.

  15t-5t2+53t3=10t or,  t2-2t=0

The non-zero root of the equation,  t=2 s  is the time when the particle strikes the wedge.
