Detailed Solution

A person cannot see objects beyond 1.2 m clearly, his defect of vision is called short- sightedness or myopia  and the nature of corrective lens required is concave lens.
Short-sightedness or myopia is a defect of vision in which person cannot see objects beyond a certain distance. It means that far point of myopic person is shifted from infinity to some finite distance ahead. As we know for normal person far point is infinity. As a result, image of distant objects forms in front of retina. The image of an object should be formed on retina, then only it is visible to eyes. Concave lens of proper power is used to increase the focal length of eye lens so that image of object at far distance should come into focus and its image should be formed on retina as shown in fgure1.
