The person is suffering from farsightedness or hypermetropic eye.
The eye lens is not able to focus (converge sufficiently) the image formed on the retina and is able to focus behind the retina. So, to converge the rays more, the convex lens is prescribed by the doctor. Hence, the power of the convex lens adds up with the power of the eye lens to focus the image on the retina. So we can say that convex lenses are used in case of hypermetropic defects.
