Detailed Solution

a) For distant vision,

Power of lens, P =5.5 D

The power P of a lens of focal length f is given by the relation,

                                                                          P =1f

Thus focal lens of the lens will be,

                                                                         f =1P

Substituting the values in the above equation,

                                                                       f = 1-5.5

On simplification ,

                                                                       f=-0.181 m

Thus, the focal length of the lens for correcting distant vision is -0.181 m.
