Concept- As given in the question one pineapple cost Rs. Question Image and one watermelon cost Rs. Question ImageX spends Rs. Question ImageOn purchasing these two fruits now we need to find how many pineapples he purchased. According to the given question Cost of watermelon is Rs. Question ImageCost of pineapple is Rs. Question ImageTotal money he spends on fruits is Rs. Question ImageLet assume the number of pineapple purchased is Question ImageThen,  money spend on pineapple will be Question ImageNow, let assume the number of watermelon purchased is Question ImageThen, money spend on watermelon will be Question ImageSo , now we can conclude that Total money spent = money spend on watermelon + money spend on pineapples
Question ImageAfter further solving, we can say that:
7x=38-5y x=38-5y7
The no. of pineapples purchased should be a whole number. So 38-5y should be a multiple of 7 to get a whole number.
Only when n is 2, the no. of pineapples purchased will be a whole number. Therefore y=2.
The value of y is
m=38-5(2)7
m=287
m = 4
The no. of pineapples purchased is 4 and the no. of watermelons purchased is 2.
Hence, the correct answer is option 3) 4
