Detailed Solution

This process of evolution of different species in a given geographical area starting from a point and literally radiating to other areas of geography (habitats) is called adaptive radiation. An area with many types of vacant habitats will lead to evolution of the invading species into different species adapted for different types of habits (adaptive radiation). If the area has only a single type of habitat all the members of the invading species show same adaptation (no adaptive radiation). Even if an area has a large number of habitats but with very low food supply the individuals of the invading species do not  invade those areas with low food supply. If an area has many habitats but occupied by a large number of species, the invading species might not survive there due to excessive competition.
