When a positive point charge is brought near an isolated conducting sphere without touching the sphere, then the free electrons in the sphere are attracted towards the positive charge making left side negatively charged. This leaves an excess of positive charge on the rear (right) surface of sphere as shown below

Electric field lines start from positive charge and end at negative charge (in this case from positive point charge to negative charge created inside the sphere).  Also, electric field line emerges from a positive charge, in case of single charge and ends at infinity. Here, all these conditions are fulfilled in figure (a).
