Production under proto-industrialisation helped poor farmers in the countryside. Poor peasants and artisans in the countryside began searching for merchants. During this period, open fields were becoming increasingly rare, and common lands were being shut down. People who had previously relied on such common lands for their livelihoods now had to find new sources of income because of this change. So, when merchants came to the peasants and offered to pay them to make things for them, the peasants jumped at the chance. As a result, their standard of life arose due to their increased revenue from proto-industrialisation, which supplemented their dwindling income from farming.
