A rainbow is a fine example of the dispersion of light.
A rainbow is the most beautiful illustration of the dispersion of white light and the production of the spectrum of sunlight in nature. For example, after a shower, some tiny water droplets in the atmosphere work as the medium of dispersion for the sunlight because these droplets act like small prisms. Because of the dispersion of light and internal reflection, different colours reach the observer’s eye at different angles. Consequently, the rainbow is formed when white light is incident on a prism. As a result, the different colours of light are refracted at different angles, forming a spectrum of seven colours.

So we can say that dispersion of light is the splitting of white light into a band of seven colours.
Dispersion refers to the splitting of visible light into its component colours. Light dispersion is caused by a change in the speed of the light beam (resulting in an angle of deviation) of each wavelength by a different amount.
