Detailed Solution

A river, along with its tributaries, may be called a river system. For example, the Ganga river system includes not only Ganga but its tributaries (the streams or rivers which join the main river), for example, Yamuna, Ghagra, Gandak, Sarda, Kosi, Son, Betwa and Chambal rivers. These all together form the Ganga river system. Other important river systems in India are the Godavari river system, Krishna river system, Kaveri river system, Mahanadi river system, and Brahmaputra river system.
