A rope 68 m long, is cut into pieces of equal length. If length of one piece is 4 1 4 m, then the number of such pieces that can be cut is16.
Now, as the length of each smaller piece is equal, so can divide the total length of the original rope by the length of one smaller piece, and the quotient obtained will be the number of such smaller pieces.
So, we setup the division operation and arrange the dividend and divisor as follows,
68÷ 17 4
Therefore we have,
68÷ 17 4 =68× 4 17
68× 4 17 = 68×4 17 =4×4 =16
So, after dividing the total length of the rope by the length of the smaller piece, the total number of smaller pieces is obtained as 16.
