Detailed Solution

A satellite moves in a circular orbit due to the gravitational force exerted by the earth. The gravitational force constantly changes the direction of the motion of the satellite as a result it remains in a circular motion. If this force is removed then the direction of the motion of the satellite will no longer keep on changing and hence the satellite will travel tangentially to the original orbit. Since a force is required to change the speed of the satellite, the satellite will keep travelling with the same speed due to the absence of the force.
