A series of Inventions in the eighteenth century increased the efficacy of the production process.
In the eighteenth century, a series of inventions improved the efficiency of each phase of the manufacturing process (carding, twisting and spinning, and rolling). They facilitated the production of stronger threads and yarn and boosted productivity per worker, allowing each worker to produce more. Richard Arkwright then invented the cotton mill. As you can see, cloth production was dispersed around the countryside and carried out inside village homes. However, the pricey new machines could now be purchased, installed, and maintained at the mill. In addition, all processes were brought together under one roof and administration within the mill. This allowed for more rigorous supervision of the production process, quality control, and labour regulation, all of which were difficult to achieve when production was done in the countryside.
