The Dhangars are communities of scheduled tribes and work as shepherds, blanket weavers, etc. Typically, they are Maharashtrian natives. Dhangar is a member of a herding caste primarily prevalent in Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh in India. In addition, they go by the names Gavali and ahir, respectively, in southern Maharashtra and northern Uttar Pradesh. Because Maharashtra is a semi-arid region with limited rainfall and poor soil, which causes the land to turn into thorny scrub, Dhangars moved to the Konkan region during the monsoon.
