Detailed Solution

A silkworm enters the second stage of its life inside a cocoon known as a pupa.
Silk is a natural fibre and is obtained from silkworms. A healthy female silk moth lays about 300 plus eggs. The larva that emerges when the eggs hatch feeds on the mulberry leaves. They secrete fine filaments made of protein from the two glands on their heads. They deposit these filaments around their body, known as a cocoon. Inside the cocoon, the silk moth enters the second stage of its life, known as Pupa and then the third and final stages of becoming a silk moth.
