Detailed Solution

Thiourea is H2N-CS||-NH2;

It is an organic compound containing nitrogen and sulphur. In sodium fusion extract, NaSCN is formed

I) Expected reaction and colour;

conc. H2SO4  oxidizes Fe+2FeSO4 to Fe+3. Fe+3+SCN- FeSCN+2

II) Actual reaction and colour

While preparing the extract, excess sodium is used which decomposes NaSCN.

NaSCN+2Na Na2S+NaCN Fe+2FeSO4+6CN-NaCN FeCN6-4 conc.H2SO4  oxidizes  Fe+2 to Fe+3 Fe+3+FeCN6-4 Fe4FeCN63Ferri ferrocyanide(Prussian blue)
