Detailed Solution

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon's shadow falls on earth.
When the shadow of the moon falls on the earth, the moon comes in between the earth and the sun, thereby blocking the sun's rays from falling on the earth. The solar eclipse can only take place when there is a new moon. Sometimes a solar eclipse lasts for 1 – 2hours, and sometimes, it may also last for 4 – 5 hours.
