Detailed Solution

A sound wave is a longitudinal wave, and the ripples wave that form in water is an example of a transverse wave.
In a longitudinal wave, the medium vibrates in the same direction as that of the wave. In a transverse wave, the medium vibrates in a perpendicular direction with respect to the direction of the wave propagation.
In sound waves, particles of the medium vibrate in the form of compression, and refractions, which move longitudinally in the direction of the wave propagation. On the other hand, ripples on the surface of water vibrate perpendicularly to the direction of the wave propagation.
