Detailed Solution

The velocity of the stone at a distance of  7.9 m is 12.44 ms-1.
The stone is not under the influence of anything else other than gravitational force. So we can find all the required details under the consideration of free fall of a body.
Distance traveled S=7.9 m
Acceleration due to gravity g=9.8 ms-2
Initial velocity u=0 ms-1
Here we are asked to find the final velocity of the stone at a distance of 7.9 m.
Final velocity of the stone is v.
We know that v2=u2+2as
Here a is equal to g so we can write v2=u2+2gS----(i)
Substitute the values in the equation (i)
v2=02+2×9.8×7.9 =>v2=154.84 =>v=12.44 ms-1 Thus the velocity of the stone when it reaches a distance of 7.9 m is  12.44 ms-1.
