A white dazzling light appears, when a strip of magnesium metal is burnt in the flame.
Burning of magnesium produces light of sufficient intensity that can cause temporary loss of sight. One should avoid looking directly towards the light source. After it burns, it forms a white powder of magnesium oxide i.e. magnesium gets oxidized and gives up two electrons to the oxygen atom to form the white-coloured powdery product. This is an exothermic reaction.
