The initial and final readings, on a stopwatch used in the experiment, are shown here. If the length of the string is L metre, the speed of the pulse through the string would be L/10 m/s.
Let L be the length of the slinkies and v is the speed of the pulse. If t is the time taken by the pulse, then we have,
Time =Distance ×Speed
=> t=10×5
=> t=50 s
Since the pulse completed 5 single journeys, the total distance covered is 5L
Then the speed of the pulse is:
Speed=Distance/Time 
=> v=5L/50
=> v=L/10 m/s
