Detailed Solution

A struggle for independence amongst the Greeks began in 1821. Since the fifteenth century, Greece has been a part of the Ottoman Empire. The rise of revolutionary nationalism in Europe sparked a Greek independence struggle that began in 1821. Nationalists in Greece received support from other Greeks living in exile, as well as from many West Europeans who admired ancient Greek culture. Poets and artists praised Greece as the cradle of European civilization and rallied public support for its fight against a Muslim empire. The English poet Lord Byron raised funds for the war, enlisted in the military, and later passed away from fever in 1824. Finally, Greece was recognised as an independent nation by the Treaty of Constantinople in 1832.
