A student is sitting on the back bench in the classroom and he cannot read clearly the letters written on the black board. Then a doctor will give him advice to wear concave lens of proper power. The student can’t read from some distance that shows he is suffering from short-sightedness or myopia. In this defect far point is shifted from infinity to some distance ahead. We know that far point of a normal person is infinity. In short-sightedness objects at far distance are not visible to eyes as the image is not formed on retina of eyes. This defect can be corrected by using concave lens of proper power. Concave lens increases the focal length of eye-lens so that objects at far distance can be viewed clearly without any strain on eyes.
