A substance which forms micelles in solutions contains 

Micelles are composed of hydrophobic and hydrophilic components. Water soluble polar groups (hydrophilic) usually present outside the surface of micelles. They face towards the water molecules because of their polar nature. The hydrophobic tails (water insoluble long hydrocarbon group) are inside the surface of micelle to stay away from the water.
