Detailed Solution

Concept- Types of fire extinguishers and its components
1- Five general types of fire extinguishers - water, foam, dry powder, wet chemicals and CO2 gas.
2-  The gas produced in the reaction - used in a type of fire extinguisher, the gas Y = carbon dioxide, CO2.
3- Carbon dioxide is produced when X reacts with HCl, so X can be  either sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate. 4- sodium carbonate is a caustic base. It is not edible and cannot be used as an antacid.
So, the option 2 is correct - X is sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and Y is carbon dioxide gas.
Hence, the correct option is (2).
