A sum of Rs. 500 is in the form of denominations of Rs. 5 and Rs. 10. If the total number of notes is 90, then the number of five-rupee notes is 80.
Assume, the number of five-rupee notes is x.
The number of ten-rupee notes is

90 − x

⇒ 5 x + 900 − 10 x = 500 ⇒ − 5 x = − 400 ⇒ x = 80
