A sweet shopkeeper prepares 396 gulab jamuns and 342 rasgullas. He packs them in containers. Each container consists of either gulab jamuns or rasgullas but has an equal number of pieces. Find the number of pieces he should put in each box so that the number of boxes is the least.

Given,
Number of gulab jamuns= 396.
Number of rasgulla =342.
Since, the stack have same number pieces
So, we find HCF of  396 and 342.
By using Euclid’s division algorithm, we have,
396=342×1+54  
342=54×6+18  
54=18×3+0  
H.C.F 396,342 =18  
Thus, the last non-zero remainder is 18.
Hence, number of pieces he should put in each box is 18.
Therefore, option (1)     is correct answer.
