It is given a tank open at the top is made of an iron sheet 4 m wide and the dimensions of the tank are

12 m × 8 m × 6 m

and the cost of an iron sheet at Rs. 17.50 per meter.
Consider the length of the sheet be x.
Evaluate the surface area of the tank,

S = 2 b h + l h + l b

Substitute the values,

S = 2 8 × 6 + 12 × 6 + 12 × 8

Simplify the terms,

S = 2 48 + 72 + 96 ⇒ S = 2 × 120 + 96 ⇒ S = 336 m 2

Evaluating the length of the sheet,

l × 4 = 336

m 2

Divide both sides by

4

l = 3364

⇒

l=84

m

So, the total cost of the sheet is 84

×

17.50=Rs.1470.
